General information about GBIF and GBIF Germany

GBIF, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (see www.gbif.org) is an international activity to make biodiversity information available to the public via the Internet: This should be a sorce of information not only for scientists, but for all interested persons. GBIF Germany (www.gbif.de) has an enormous importance for the worldwide availabilty of biodiversity data from Germany, especially for and from natural history collections, which collaborate for the first time in a comprehensive project compound funded directly by the German State (Federal Ministry of Education and Research, BMBF) .

GBits: 26. Newsletter des GBIF Sekretariats erschienen

Ende Januar hat das Sekretariat von GBIF den 26. Newsletter GBits herausgegeben. Ein Schwerpunkt dieser Ausgabe sind Informationen zum ersten GBIF Data-Paper, welches über ZooKeys veröffentlicht wurde.

anymals+plants erreicht 10000 Nutzer - Weiterentwicklung durch staatliche Förderung gesichert

Das Projekt anymals+plants hat Ende des Jahres 2011 die finanzielle Förderung durch das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung erhalten und das Entwicklerteam hat nun die Arbeit aufgenommen. Mittlerweile haben sich über 10.000 Nutzer registriert.

GBIF young research award: Preis für junge Biodiversitäts-InformatikerInnen

MasterstudentInnen und DoktorandInnen, die im Rahmen von GBIF forschen, können je einen Preis von 4.000 Euro für ihre innovativen Forschungsansätze gewinnen. Jedes GBIF-Mitgliedsland kann dazu zwei KandidatenInnen nominieren.
