The European FP7-ESFRI project LifeWatch, e-science and technology infrastructure for biodiversity research and observatories is now one year into its preparatory phase, and in the next decade, LifeWatch will construct and bring into operation the facilities, hardware, software and governance structures for all aspects of biodiversity research. (...)

In order to make sure LifeWatch will live up the expectations, it is important to collect as many suggestions and contributions from future users of the new infrastructure.
For this reason, LifeWatch is conducting an online survey. Questions deal mainly with the LifeWatch "Services" and all the features LifeWatch could offer. Filling out the questionnaire will take about 20 minutes. At the end respondents will be able to indicate if they wish to be kept informed about the results and to subscribe to the LifeWatch Newsletter.

GBIF Juni 2010

Bereits am 24. Juni 2010 unterzeichneten GBIF und die LifeWatch Infrastruktur für Biodiversitäts- und Ökosytemforschung einen Kooperationsvertrag (Memorandum of Cooperation, MoC). Die Kräfte beider Organisationen sollen für die Entwicklung und Nutzung biodiversitätsinformatischer Infrastrukturen zum Nutzen aller gebündelt werden.

LifeWatch Survey April 2010

Im Rahmen von LifeWatch WP3 (Wissenschafts-Netzwerk Strategie) läuft noch bis 22. April 2010 eine Umfrage, um zu erfahren, welche wissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen zurzeit noch nicht beantwortet werden können aber in naher Zukunft im Rahmen von LifeWatch beantwortet werden könnten. Es geht um nicht weniger als die Zusammenstellung der künftigen Herausforderungen der Biodiversitätsforschung für Wissenschafts-Netzwerke.

Jahr der Biodiversität 2010

Die Vereinten Nationen haben 2010 zum Internationalen Jahr der Biodiversität erklärt. Die Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) unterstützt diese Initiative. Die Erhaltung der Biodiversität unserer Erde ist nicht denkbar, ohne die Artenvielfalt und ihre Gefährdungen zu kennen. GBIF leistet seit 2001 einen signifikanten Beitrag zur Kenntnis durch offenen und freien Zugang zu Biodiversitätsdaten, die für Nutzer wie für weitergehende Analysen zur Verfügung stehen.

Workshop Biodiversitätsinformatik

Bei der diesjährigen Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft für Informatik wird es am 28.9. einen halbtägigen "Workshop Biodiversitätsinformatik" geben. Beiträge können bis zum 26.4.2009 eingereicht werden (Weitere Informationen).

GBIF Webseite zieht um

Heute wurde die Portierung der GBIF Deutschlande Website von Zope nach Drupal abgeschlossen. In diesem Zuge wurde der bestehende Inhalt in das CMS Drupal 6.1 unter Beibehaltung der bislang gültigen URLs überführt.
