Bacteria & Archaea: Data retrieval
The data portal GBIF international allows free and open access to biodiversity related information. Besides other species, there can be obtained information on bacteria and archaea. In particular, information on the strains of the DSMZ culture collection (DSMZ Prokarya Collection Catalogue) and the collection of phytopathogenic bacteria (GSPB) of the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Göttingen (GSPB Prokarya Catalogue) can be retrieved.

The accessible data is provided according the ABCD scheme and can be accessed via the BioCASE protocol.

Outlook on new developments in data retrieval
Currently, the node GBIF-D bacteria and archaea is working on the development of a new web portal for data and information retrieval - BacDive. Via the BacDive portal comprehensive meta-information on bacteria and archaea will be presented and provided for retrieval. BacDive will be available in the course of 2012.
