

AlgaTerra
AlgaTerra is a relational database, based on the Berlin Taxomic Information Model. AlgaTerra contains micro algal names, names relations, names concepts, types, pictures, videos, morphological information, taxonomical information, ecological information, and molecular information. AlgaTerra is available on the Internet at no charge. AlgaTerra was financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to build up an information infrastructure for phycological research in Germany. AlgaTerra is maintained by the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum, Berlin-Dahlem, Freie Universität Berlin. The AlgaTerra mission is to provide referenced data for fundamental research, applied research, teaching, and the public.

April 2011: 1000 AlgaTerra Observations provided to GBIF
January 2011: AlgaTerra becomes part of GBIF Germany Algae & Protists, a subnode within GBIF-D Plants & Protists
May 2010: AlgaTerra contributes to GBIF with a 3rd dataset, comprising observation data, specimen data, and images: GBIF
December 2009: AlgaTerra dataset finalized
March 2009: AlgaTerra contributes to the exibition: The universe under the microscope – biodiversity and aesthetics of diatoms (BGBM Berlin-Dahlem, 12 March to 1 June, 2009).
July 2007: 1000 of 6000 datasets in the Types Section illustrated
March 2006: 20000 Algal names in AlgaTerra
December 2005: The AlgaTerra Types section is available via GBIF
